Bob Kelly (1938 - 2010)

"ROBERT JANSON KELLY Age 71, of Chatham, IL, died at Memorial Medical Center at 6:05 AM, Friday, January 15, 2010.

He was born November 26, 1938 in Detroit, MI, to Lawrence E. and Olga Janson Kelly who preceded him in death.

Mr. Kelly married Elizabeth K. "Jackie" Kenny on November 10, 1962. Mr. Kelly graduated from Springhill College in Mobile, AL. He was looking forward to the 50th class reunion in April this year. After serving in the U.S. Army for 21 years, Bob retired as a Sgt. 1st Class. He retired in 1990 as a computer systems analyst at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Corporation in West Palm Beach, FL. While he lived in Florida, he served the Palm Beach Gardens area in the police reserves for eight years, was a friend of Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob, and participated in Cursillo and Emmaus Retreats through his church.

Bob and Jackie moved to Chatham in 2004, from Florida where he had lived in Palm Beach Gardens and Celebration and had weathered several hurricanes.

Bob is a member of St. Joseph the Worker in Chatham, the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Chatham Council and a life member of the Moose Lodge in Palm Beach Garden, FL.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie; son, Robert (wife, Debbie) Kelly Jr.; daughters, Karen Ann Kelly of Lehigh Acres, FL, Laura E. (husband, Danny) Sheedy of Chatham, IL, Mary Louise (husband, Darin) Montgomery of Lake Worth, FL, Theresa Marie (husband, John) Whartenby and Nicole Marie Kelly both of Chatham, IL; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and another due in May; sisters, Sheila Spears and Sharon (husband, Ron) Toth Both of Jacksonville, FL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins in Palm Beach Gardens, FL.

Visitation will begin with a prayer vigil at 4 PM on Monday, January 18.

Military honors will be conducted by the Interveterans' Burial Detail of Sangamon County at 5 PM during visitation. His family will greet friends until 7 PM, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham. Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10 AM, Tuesday, January 19, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church with Father John Nolan as celebrant. Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Cemetery.
